The Parents’ Association and Board of Management of the school are currently working to achieve the installation of an all-weather, multi-games surface (an Astroturf pitch) on the grounds of Ballyfin National School.
This area is currently a grass playing field, but unfortunately the ground is too wet for most of the year to allow the children to play on it, and so they are confined to the tarmacadam areas of the school grounds for the most part. They are unable to play proper games of soccer, gaelic football, basketball or other sports as a result. A synthetic playing surface would greatly improve our use of space in the school, and provide opportunities for the children to engage safely in high levels of physical activity at break-times and during PE classes throughout the year. It should also be a wonderful resource for the local community.
Unfortunately, this is a very expensive project, with an estimated cost of 110, 000 euros. We have been lucky enough to obtain a CLÁR funding grant of 50, 000 euro, so we are hoping to raise 50, 000 this year. Please see below for details of some of our fundraising initiatives.
Our main fundraising event at the moment is the very exciting 'Dash to 44' challenge- see tab below for more details!
