Athletics day MARCH 2018
On March 22nd Ballyfin N.S. held an athletics day, showing off all our skills we had learned during the month of March. Every class took part in a variety of fun activities and exercises, including an endurance test, hoop throwing, an obstacle course and relays. Our active schools committee and 6th class led each station, encouraging and supporting each class as they completed the activities. We were blessed with dry weather too…..a big plus!!
A thoroughly enjoyable day overall!

(Malin Head to Mizen Head (JAN/FEB 2018)
We have learned a lot of interesting facts about Ireland and made fantastic fact-files. To keep ourselves active, we have decided to run from Malin Head in Co. Donegal to Mizen Head in Co. Cork. The distance is 609km. One lap of the school yard = 1 km for our little legs! We will keep you up to date on our progress. We started on Monday 9th October and completed 7laps/7km on our first day. We are tracking our progress on google maps.
On Wednesday 14th February we reached our destination. 609KM wow!!!!!!! We are so proud of ourselves. What a fun and active journey it has been.
GET ballyfin fit (may/june 2017)
As the weather is improving (and hopefully it will continue to improve) the active schools committee have organized a walking initiative for every class in the school.
Each class was asked to walk one lap of the running track at 6 different times during the next few weeks and to record their walking time. The aim of this initiative is to improve the children’s level of fitness, by trying to beat their walking score each time. The Active School Flag Committee met beforehand to organise the event and steps were taken to ensure the routes and distances of the waslking initiative were appropriate to every pupil in the school right from Junior Infants to 6th class. |
To make it more competitive and interesting for the classes we are going to give a prize to the class with the most improved time by the end of the initiative.
