On Thursday, January 25th 2024 we were delighted to host a Grandparents' Day in the school, as part of Catholic Schools week. We began the day in St Fintan's Church, where the whole school and the grandparents attended a lovely Mass said by Fr Joe. The grandparents then came across to the school and visited their grandchildren in their classrooms, and admired our lovely building. The Parents' Association provided tea and biscuits in the school hall, where the grandparents had a chance to chat together. Thanks to everyone who made the day so special - particularly all the grandparents who turned out in such numbers, much to the delight of their grandchildren.
GRANDPARENT'S day 31/5/2019
On Friday 31st May we invited our grandparents to our school.
Our parish priest,Fr. Joe Brophy, welcomed our grandparents and gave them a special grandparents blessing.
The children of fifth and sixth class sang a medley of songs that our grandparents sang in primary school.
This was interspersed with some poems our grandparents learnt when they were in primary school-poems like "The Lake Isle of Inishfree" and "I see his blood upon the rose".
Our grandparents then enjoyed chatting amongst themselves about school long ago.
They also got an opportunity to look at the old school roll books and a writing project from the 1930s which features some of the children from Ballyfin N.S.
Teas and coffees were provided by our staff and the children of sixth class were busy baking buns and cakes!
The children then came and collected their grandparents from the hall and brought them on a tour of their classroom and the school. There was a lot to see and both our young people and our " slightly older people "
really enjoyed the experience.
Below are some valuable memories from the day.
